Nerf Vulcan EBF-25

Released on the 9.9.2008, this was once the undisputed king of all Nerf guns. Introducing...
The Nerf Vulcan EBF-25.

This gun was Nerf's flagship gun back in 2008, and is a really a love it or hate it among Nerf fans.

ADVANTAGES and DISADVANTAGES
  • Is huge, measuring 70 cm long and weighing more than 3 kilograms
  • Comes with a 25 dart chain, however this can be attached
  • Houses 3 tactical rails
  • Comes with a tripod, however this is not compatible with any other guns
  • Has a handle, but i wouldn't recommend using it as it means you have very poor accuracy
  • Has a disappointing range, usually around 25 feet.

  • Usually cost $70 to $90 dollars, though can go as low as $50 on a sale
  • Has automatic fire and single fire
  • In rapid fire you hold down the trigger for a stream of darts
  • In single fire you pull back a bolt as with the Longshot and Longstrike. From experience single fire can jam often, up to 10 times per 25 darts
  • Darts can sometimes get caught in the barrel of the gun, and this can lead to jamming problems, as when using the Vulcan on its tripod it is hard to get the bullets out quickly
  • I have heard of problems with the durability of the Vulcan, though mine has never had any problems
  • Is very hard to dual wield because of it's weight, but has the capability of housing a strap (preferably the Bandolier) and this means you can dual wield
  • The use of a strap also allows for use of single fire when not using the tripod

Overall I'm going to give this gun 7/10 stars. It is an is an absolute beast, and has the same 'run for cover' effect as a Stampede or Rapid Fire. However, the range of this gun lets it down severely; it means that you have to be quick and get in close for attacks, and, lets face it, isn't that what a Maverick's for.

Nerf Hornet AS-6

The Nerf Hornet maybe isn't the most consistent Nerf gun, but it definitely packs a punch!
ADVANTAGES and DISADVANTAGES of a working Hornet
  • This gun can shoot 35 feet easily, so you should expect a range of about 40 feet
  • Has two blaster modes
  • Single Fire means you pull the trigger once to shoot each bullet, usually with poor ranges
  • When you press the blast button, it releases all darts simultaneously
  • Has a fairly accurate curved sight
  • Comes by itself in blue
  • Comes in green with the Hulk Abomination blaster
  • Comes in red with the Unity Power System
  • Costs $40 by itself, which is very expensive, and can only be bought at Toys R Us
  • Can be bought as part of the Unity Power System for $70 (right)
  • Needs to be cocked, and then pumped 20 times before it can be used
  • Bullets can simply pop out of the chamber, however this can be fixed by using Buzz Bee Darts
Sometimes out of the box Hornet's can fail to work at all, or stop working within a week or two. If this happens, it is either
  • Because you have pumped it to many times and stretched the bladder
  • Because the model you have bought is simply part of a bad batch.
Unless you're a modding wizard than there is nothing you can do: your Hornet is broken. I would recommend buying this gun as part of the Unity Power System, therefore if your store has a no refund policy you still have the more consistent other components.
This gun receives 7.5/10 stars. It is powerful, especially with the Buzz Bee darts, but lack of consistency in the heat of battle prevents this gun from receiving more stars.

Nerf Secret Strike Update

Just to get this straight, Buzz Bee makes terrible guns. But on a tip from a friend, I bought a pack of Buzz Bee darts and put them in my Secret Strike. The result? A great increase of range - up to 40 feet!

But the best part was when I tried them in my Hornet AS-6. When used with old darts, the bullets sometimes don't go in the full way into the barrel, and fail to fire. However, when used with Buzz Bee darts new or old the bullets fire with an increase of range.

So far these are the only Nerf guns that I know these bullets work in; they don't work in the Maverick, Nite Finder, Vulcan, Barricade or any of the clip system guns. But if you have a Secret Strike or in particular a Hornet, I strongly advise getting some of these darts.

Nerf Secret Strike AS-1

The Secret Strike AS-1 is Nerf's smallest N-Strike blaster, and definitely deserves a mention.

ADVANTAGES and DISADVANTAGES
  • I got mine for only $3.75!!!
  • Has a belt clip and can easily be hidden in warfare
  • Has a range of about 30 feet after the recommended 7 pumps.
  • Can fire all Nerf darts, though streamline darts don't travel quite as far
  • Pumping the blaster 9 or 10 times can lead to greater ranges, but can stretch the blaster and damage the gun
  • The gun actually doesn't have a trigger, and is awkward in the hand
  • Has a low RoF, averaging about one dart every 5 or 6 seconds.
This gun gets 6/10 stars. While it will be useless in a fast-paced Nerf war, it has its purpose, and is cost efficient.

Nerf Recon CS-6 Review

The Recon CS-6 was redesigned and rereleased in 2007, and remains my favourite clip-system blaster
ADVANTAGES and DISADVANTAGES
  • Comes with a main unit, a stock, a barrel extension, light-beam target, flip up sight and a six dart clip.
  • Can shoot about one dart every two seconds.
  • Fall into the middle price range at $25-$40 dollars. However, I have seen it for as much as $50 at Target.
  • Despite advertising that the barrel extension is for long-range missions, it actually decreases the range from 35 feet to 25-30 feet.
  • The flip-up sight is more accurate than the scope that comes with an Element or Longshot, as it lines up with the sight at the end of the blaster to compensate for trajectory.
  • The light-beam requires 2 AA batteries, and is similar in accuracy to the Nite Finder's built in light-beam
  • The Recon houses 3 tactical rails; one on the top and the bottom of the barrel extension and one on the top of the main unit
  • Can hold an extra clip in the stock, and can also just about hold the Alpha Trooper's 18 dart drum
  • Is compatible with all other Nerf clips and drums
  • Can only fire streamline (clip system) darts
  • The spring can wear out if left cocked for too long
  • Uses a reverse plunger system, meaning it has less power than a Longshot or Stampede.
  • Can rip or tear bullets inside the gun
Overall I give this gun 6.5/10 stars, as it is overly expensive and jams all the time. It is nearly the perfect weapon.... FOR NOOBS. When used with the 18 or 35 dart drums it is averagely decent.

Nerf Nite Finder EX-3

The Nite Finder EX-3 is Nerf's most popular single shot blaster, and one of my favourite blasters

ADVANTAGES and DISADVANTAGES
  • Is small and is a good weight for its size
  • Has a built in laser target, that is fairly accurate up to ranges of 15 feet
  • Has a fantastic range of 40 feet with whistler darts
  • Works best with new bullets, otherwise the darts can pop out and fail to fire
  • Only costs $10 AUS
  • Since it is reloaded at the back, all accessories are easily compatible with the tactical rail
  • Can fire 1 dart at a time, and has room to store 2 extra darts. Is very effective with the Barrel Break's ammo rail accessory
  • Is very accurate, possibly more so without use of the laser beam
  • Requires 2 AA batteries to operate the light-beam

Overall I give this gun 8/10 stars, mainly for its  power and cost efficiency. And it's always fun to blind people with the laser...

Nerf Maverick REV-6

The Maverick REV-6 was re-released in the N-Strike range in 2007, but was created by Nerf in 2004.

ADVANTAGES and DISADVANTAGES-
  • Is small and light
  • It has a pop-out barrel that holds six darts.
  • Can fire any Nerf dart
  • Has a decent range for its size, shooting up to 35 feet
  • Cocking mechanism allows for very fast shooting, with up to 3 darts a second, but this usually leads to a large decrease in the range.
  • The 'sight' of the gun is a bump at the end near the barrel, and is extremely accurate over ranges of up to 15 feet
  • Costs $15 AUS
  • Can occasionally jam, meaning that darts barely leave the barrel.
  • The tactical rail is on top of the cocking mechanism, which means accesories such as scopes and sights can be knocked off
Overall I gived this gun 8.5/10 stars. It is consistent, and remains one of the greatest guns Nerf has ever made.
